Chemical Peel
Pre/Post treatment instructions
Pre/Post treatment instructions
Pre and post care are crucial when undergoing a chemical peel treatment on your face because they help ensure safe, effective results and minimize the risk of complications like irritation, scarring, or hyperpigmentation. Below is the before treatment and after treatment care that should be followed.
Before Your Treatment
- Discontinue the use of any Retinoid, Hydroquinone, Benzoyl Peroxide or topical acne-medications 1 to 2 weeks prior to chemical peel.
- Sun exposure and/or usage of a tanning bed, including self-tanning products must be avoided for 1 week prior to and 4 weeks after the treatment. Sun exposure within 2 weeks after treatment (natural sunlight or artificial tanning booth) may result in hypopigmentation (white spots) or hyperpigmentation (dark spots) that may not clear for several months or may even be permanent.
- Waxing and/or use of chemical depilatories must be avoided for 1-2 weeks prior and 4 weeks after the treatment.
After Your Treatment
- Immediately after treatment, there may be mild redness in the treated areas similar to a sunburn, which may last from several hours to 2 days.
- DO NOT apply anything (including water) to your skin for a minimum of 2 hours for Glytone Mandelic & Pyruvic and 12 hours after the Jessner chemical peel.
- You may begin washing skin after 2 hours for Glytone Mandelic & Pyruvic and 12 hours after the Jessner chemical peel. Wash the treated area gently twice a day with a gentle cleanser. Use lukewarm water only. Apply a healing and soothing moisturizer as often as needed.
- No exercise, jacuzzi, sauna or steam baths for the first 48 hours following the treatment.
- Sun exposure must be avoided for the next 4 weeks following the treatment. This includes tanning beds.
- DO NOT apply any type of Glycolic Acid or exfoliation products, as this can severely damage or irritate the skin during the entire healing process.
- Expect to begin flaking or peeling at 2-3 days following the chemical peel. You may peel for 2-7days. Continue to moisturize the treated area for the duration of the peeling process.
- DO NOT pick or peel at loose skin. Picking or scrubbing at the skin in an attempt to speed the sloughing process can lead to pigment irregularities including scarring of the skin! Don’t worry if you don’t peel at all. Sometimes effective peels on skin in good condition will not go through the peeling process.
- Make-up should be avoided until the healing process has completed.
